Chianti mayors say new property tax 'strikes soul' of land
2015-02-13
The government's IMU property tax is putting at risk agricultural production in the rich Chianti countryside of Tuscany, two local mayors complained Tuesday.

"The IMU agricultural (tax) strikes at the soul of Chianti," say Giacomo Trentanovi and David Baroncelli, representing Barberino Val d'Elsa and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

They accused the national government of "harassing" property owners with the tax that they say could drive many out of business when it should instead being "giving a hand" during the ongoing economic crisis.
Tranzi bastards---is there nothing decent (Chianti is better than decent wine, IMO) they won't try to destroy?

#7  Property taxes on the unimproved value of the land are de-facto capitalist.
Property taxes on the use the land are de facto NOT
capitalist.

#6  They'll plant massive sticks & stucco housing tracts when the farmers go belly up. Won't taste as good as the wine but the houses will pay more in taxes. Seen it happen in Kaliphornia. Although the vineyards here are still profitable you don't see many orange or avacado groves anymore.

#4  Rent seeking writ large. Drive out the small guys to the benefit of the big guy.

This is the MO of all Fascist, Socialist, Communist, Crony Capitalist (corporatist) and hybrid movements in the world. The more regulation the more centralized government control.

#2  First they came for the Chianti, and I said nothing.
Then they came for the Cannelloni, and I was too full to fight.
