| [DAWN] THE burning to death of 45 people in western Iraq and the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic hostages in Libya should make regional states and world powers revise their pusillanimous strategy if they are serious about destroying the criminal hordes operating as the self-styled Islamic State. ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... The response by the US-led coalition hasn't served to break the IS militia's strength, for it continues to remain in occupation of large chunks of territory and seems to be expanding its area of influence. Its stunning advance from western Iraq to Syria as far as the Turkish border has come to a halt, and now, like similar bad boy groups looking to conquer territory, it will need time to consolidate. | #1 The strategy should use drones to find any troop movements on the open road and then destroy the leading elements. Follow up with A10 runs or B52 strikes to finish the job. Before long they'll be hiding in the cities and running out of food. |
