2015-02-27
[ARA] On Thursday, Lebanese army units clashed with Syrian gunnies in the area of Jurud in the town of Ras Baalbek adjacent to the eastern Syrian-Lebanese border, officials reported.

Military sources told local media that the Lebanese army forces were able to repel an attempted advance by Syrian snuffies after fierce festivities in the Jurud area.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) confirmed that the army took control of the top of a hill (one of the strategic peaks in the Jurud area) and seized large numbers of weapons as well as ammunition following the gunnies's withdrawal.

The Lebanese army was able to advance in Ras Baalbek towards the Syrian border, and established a number of security checkpoints for the sake of surveillance.

The NNA referred to the army's use of heavy and medium artillery during the military operation, as well as military helicopters which raided the gunnies's major stronghold of Tel Hamra.
