Nine wounded in coordinated attacks in southern Thailand |
2015-03-05 |
[The Nation] A police officer and eight civilians were wounded in three attacks in Pattani's Khok Pho district yesterday. Security forces later arrested a suspect identified as Sakareeya Sakam at a local village, and seized 12 fake license plates and around 100 rounds of M-16 ammunition. The incidents began when gunmen on motorcycles approached a motorcycle repair shop and shot at its owner and a customer, before a motorcycle bomb hit an unmarked police vehicle that was approaching the crime scene. Nobody was injured in this explosion. Then a team of six civilians led by a police officer arrived only to be hit by a hidden bomb. A police source said the three attacks were well-planned and coordinated. The attackers planned to launch attacks in Muang district while a festival was underway, but changed the location when they could not enter the festival. Another security source said Sakareeya was probably behind a large car bomb in Narathiwat last year. |
