NYT's boxers panties in total 'wad up' over Bibi election victory.
2015-03-19
[Thomas Friedman - NYT] Well, it's pretty clear now: Benjamin Netanyahu is going to be a major figure in Israeli history -- not because he's heading to become the longest-serving Israeli prime minister, but because he's heading to be the most impactful. Having won the Israeli elections -- in part by declaring that he will never permit a two state-solution between Israelis and Palestinians -- it means Netanyahu will be the father of the one-state solution. And the one-state solution means that Israel will become, in time, either a non-Jewish democracy or Jewish non-democracy.

Yes, sir, Bibi is going to make history. And the leader in the world who is most happy that Netanyahu ran on -- and won on -- a one-state solution is the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Oh, my goodness. They must have been doing high-fives and "Allahu akbars" all night in the ruling circles of Tehran when they saw how low Bibi sank to win. What better way to isolate Israel globally and deflect attention from Iran's behavior?
A near landslide election victory and the obvious will of the Israeli people are of little concern to the author, or other leftist progressives.

#11  djk, I'd like to hear grom's take, but you may have something - the Arabs represent ~20% of the Israeli population but the Arab party pulled only about 10% of the vote.

#10  There must be some rational explanation why the polls got this election so wrong. My guess is that the polls assumed that the Arab vote would go mostly to the Arab party, and based their assessments only on Jewish voters. And I believe there was a big Arab vote for Bibi; Israeli Arabs are realists and do not trust the Left.

#9  My local paper is owned by the NYT. Their headline on the Israeli elections was "Israeli-American Relationship Faces 2 Years of Increasing Tension."

#7  I feel like I'm back in 5th grade where everyone had to write the same story, but when each student went in front of the class the stories are all just a little different.

Here Friedman gets dats raysist and islamohomophobia points for the lual snackbaring, as if that is all the Persians do all night tickling each others hands.

The counter to Friedman's oration is that Bibi has shown he will win at any cost. A neophyte's folly, major deductions.

Overall: C-, and only because of the funny image of mullahs sitting around giggling like girls.

So far my favorite answer to this class assignment Bibi won, but what cost? theme contest has been:
It cost The Department of State $350,000.

#6  Anything that pisses off the NYTs and Obama makes me happy.

Welcome back Bibi.

#5  Democracy? Wasn't he the one previously praising the authoritarianism of the Chinese to get things done? The only kind of democracy Mr. Friedmen's type like are the "Peoples Democratic Republic of".

#4  it means Netanyahu will be the father of the one-state solution. And the one-state solution means that Israel will become, in time, either a non-Jewish democracy or Jewish non-democracy.

A one-state solution must not mean to Friedman what it means to Bibi.

#3  Somehow I can't visualize boxers in many NYT wardrobes. Manties, more likely.
