(IS/ISIS), the joint forces defending Kobane in the province of Aleppo, in northern Syria, were able Thursday to enter the town of Serrin, which was considered the last stronghold in the southern countryside of Kobane, military sources reported. Speaking to ARA News, Khalid Minas, fighter in the ranks of People's Protection Units (YPG) said that the YPG fighters --backed by Burkan al-Furat and the Peshmerga forces-- took over the town of Serrin where Arabs constitute majority and seized control of the town's cop shoppe after forcing the IS "The cop shoppe was an IS headquarter," the source added, pointing out that the joint forces took control of the western and southern parts of the town. Minas also stressed that the U.S.-led international coalition's warplanes carried out several strikes on IS headquarters in Serrin "which facilitated the path for the our forces to take over the town. These developments coincided with intensified artillery and rocket bombings launched by Peshmerga forces on the group's locations in nearby areas. Serrin town (45 km south of Kobane) was deemed to be the last bastion for the IS faceless myrmidons within the administrative borders of Kobane. |
