'US political system awash in money and corruption': Analyst
2015-03-24
[Iran Press TV] The US government is an undemocratic "oligarchy
... derived from the Greek words oligos, a few and the verb archo, to rule, to govern, to command. Oligarchies are invariably effectual rather than established, to whit, they disguise themselves as other systems, working as the real government behind the face of of democracy, fascism, socialism, monarchy, or what have you...
" where members of Congress are awash in corruption and are "thoroughly disconnected" from the American people, a writer and political analyst in Boston says.

US politicians are a group of wealthy individuals who have "very little in common" with the people who elected them, said Daniel Patrick Welch, an antiwar activist and outspoken critic of US foreign policy.

"You don't have a democracy at all, you have an oligarchy and that's why there is so little distinction between the parties, especially in terms of foreign policy," Welch told Press TV on Monday.
Yes, very "little distinction" when examined earnestly. Been that way since the 1950's. possibly earlier.
"So that idea that these officials are democratically elected or that they are chosen by the people is a complete farce, the system is thoroughly awash in money and corruption," he added.

Welch cited recent studies that show the American people have no control over government policies. "You can no longer say that this is a democratic system where people are fighting for the right of the people."

The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that the US Justice Department is expected to file corruption charges against Senator Robert Menendez as early as this week.

Federal prosecutors specializing in public corruption cases are preparing to file charges against the Democratic senator from New Jersey, according to people familiar with the inquiry.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been probing Menendez for more than two years to see whether he took things of value from a friend and donor in Florida.

#6  Well, yes. I must agree. I just don't like reading it in Iran Press TV. It's like the Mad Mullahs are attempting to justify themselves by pointing out the flaws in our system. But why should they complain when they have their little stooge in the White House?

Rapidly evolving into the least attractive form of government:theocratic oligarchy.

#4  ..Donk is optional.

That's the whole point of the Constitution which the Left ignores and everyone else seems blind to. What the Founders understood when they wrote the document from studying real history is what is phrased as "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Therefore they accepted injustices created by dividing and dissipating power among several branches of government rather to put efficiency in the consolidation of power in a single governmental entity which eventually leads to tyranny, the worst injustice of all.

Taking 'things of value from a friend and doner'.....doesn't seem to have been an issue with anyone in Congress previously. Must be a new corruption crackdown. [sarc off]
