Kurds continue advance against ISIS Northern Syria
2015-04-17
[ARA] Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) announced Wednesday that their fighters, in cooperation with the rebels of Burkan al-Furat Operations Chamber, have begun a new military campaign against the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in the countryside of Kobane in the province of Aleppo, northern Syria.

The YPG’s Media Center issued a statement, of which ARA News received a copy, saying that in addition to the killing of six members of the terrorist group, the campaign resulted in the liberation of the following villages: Khan Mohammad, Hamadoun, Kharab Barakir, Saqi and Kirk.

“Our units (YPG) seized a big deal of ammunition and military equipment after liberating the villages from the IS terrorists,” the statement said, adding that two fighters of Burkan al-Furat lost their lives during the battles.

The YPG leadership pointed out that the IS group tried Tuesday night to launch an attack on the village of Koketba, but the Kurdish forces repelled the attack.

“The terrorists tried to break through the defensive lines of our forces through the use of a car bomb attack, but the YPG units were able to detonate it, killing nine of its crew,” the YPG’s MC said.

The Field media activist Omid Khoshman told ARA News on the phone that the military campaign is still ongoing, and has resulted in regaining control of new villages including Kaifoniya, Soghan and Khatoniya.

On Monday, the joint forces took control of other villages in the eastern and southeastern countryside of Kobane after advancing to the fighting front of Kharab Ashk and the Lafarge plant.
