| Officials Say Explosion in Southern Afghanistan Kills 3 |

| [AnNahar] Afghan officials say an kaboom near a southern cop shoppe has killed three people and maimed 17. Samim Khpalwak, front man for the provincial governor, said the kaboom Tuesday morning struck the city of Kandahar, the capital of Kandahar province. Authorities initially believed a boom-mobile caused the kaboom, but later said they were unsure what happened. Qayyum Pokhla, the head of Kandahar's regional hospital, says the blast killed three people, including two coppers and one woman. He said the kaboom maimed 17. No group immediately grabbed credit for the attack. Kandahar is the heartland of Taliban turbans and the city was the capital of the bad boys' government from 1996-2001. Attacks on Afghan cops have intensified in recent weeks as the turbans mount their annual summer offensive. |
