[Manila Times] Philippine security forces have captured a leader of the communist New People's Army and his wife in Batangas.Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said Norberto Boricco, alias Isaw, and his wife who uses the noms de guerre Indi and Eldi were arrested by the Philippine military and national police in Barangay Niogan, Lemery, Batangas, on Thursday. The couple have outstanding arrest warrants for their involvement in murders and frustrated murders perpetrated in Samar in the Visayas.
The military said Borrico is the front secretary and finance officer of the NPAs operating in the municipalities of Northern Samar. Borrico is thought to have led the twin attacks in the towns of Oras and Arteche in Eastern Samar in 2003 and 2013 where 11 soldiers, two policemen, five pro-government militiamen and a civilian were killed.
Cabunoc said, "The arrest of the couple is a result of a tip from an NPA supporter who confessed that he was already tired of receiving extortion threats and demands from the NPA bandits."
