Wreckage Of U.S. Marine Helicopter Found In Nepal; 3 Bodies Discovered Near Crash Site
2015-05-15
[HUFFPOST] KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) -- Nepalese rescuers on Friday found three bodies near the wreckage of a U.S. Marine helicopter that disappeared earlier this week while on a relief mission in the earthquake-hit Himalayan nation, and officials said it was unlikely there were any survivors from the crash.

"The wreckage of the helicopter was found in pieces and there are no chances of any survivors," Nepal's Defense Secretary Iswori Poudyal said. He gave no details about the nationalities of the three victims, only saying their remains were charred.

The helicopter was carrying six Marines and two Nepalese army soldiers.

#5  Do not know about the performance envelope of Hueys but density altitude could be a factor.

#4  I saw it as two pilots, +4 Marines...probably a Corpsman or two of the 4, and two interpreters considering where they were headed. Semper Fi.

#3  Semper Fidelis Marines - May your families take solace knowing you gave your lives helping others in great need.

No greater friend and no worse enemy.

RIP to the Nepalese soldiers who died in service of their nation.

#2  A lot of coverage on this here in Kansas since the pilot was from Wichita, a football coach, and all around good guy. They also report that he was flying a Huey at 11,000 feet with eight passengers. Is this possible?
