| Rookie cop killed in NPA attack on police outpost |

| [Inquirer] A rookie policeman, Andrio Jose Linao, was killed when communist militants stormed a police outpost in a mining village in Tarragona, Davao Oriental, early Friday. Police spokesperson Antonio Rivera said an undetermined number of New People's Army militants attacked a detachment of the provincial public safety company. By text message, Rivera said, "The attack killed (Linao)." Meanwhile, three alleged NPA militants surrendered to troops in Monkayo, Compostela Valley province. Jessie, Jefred and Jonathan, all surnamed Conseng, voluntarily turned themselves to soldiers in Poblacion village around 8 a.m. Thursday. Capt. Alberto Caber said, "According to the three former rebels, they wanted to embrace peace, live a normal live with their loved ones and avail of the programs of the government (intended for former rebels)." |
