[Right Scoop] Time flies when you're an extremist terrorist who has been released from Guantanamo Bay because Obama wanted to claim a victory by bringing accused deserter Bergdahl home. It's been a year since the five top terrorists were released to Qatar, and the no-fly restriction is about to be lifted.

I surmised that both sides were prepared to 'play' each other at varying degrees for the benefit of their respective audiences. That said, it's more likely that the theatrics, much like the welfare of the exchangee, were secondary to whatever the administration hoped to achieve.

I surmise there was a likely 'overseas' component to this as well, possibly a "player to be named later," or some sort of information exchange in the Klingon/striped-pants manner.
