Eleven people sentenced to DEATH following deadly riot at football match in Egypt |
2015-06-10 |
[MIRROR.CO.UK] Eleven people have had their death sentences upheld for their part in the worst fan violence in Egyptian football history. More than 70 fans were killed and over 1,000 injured following a fracas between supporters at the Port Said stadium in 2012. Many of the dead were crushed when panicked fans tried to escape from the stadium after a post-match pitch invasion by supporters of the local side al-Masry. Others fell or were thrown from terraces, witnesses said at the time. |
