In similar development, dozens of civilians, some fear as high as 100, were killed in a massacre carried out by gunnies affiliated with Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria on Wednesday night, military and local sources said Thursday. According to preliminary reports, gunnies went on a rampage in Borno state's Kukawa town and specifically targeted mosques in the area. "Close to 100 people were murdered, especially those killed inside different mosques in the town. Women and children too were not spared," a military source in the Nigerian army in Maiduguri, a city in Borno state, told Anadolu Agency on Thursday evening. He said the attack occurred around sunset time as Moslems offered the Maghrib prayer just shortly after opening the day's Ramadan fast Wednesday night. Abba Kyari, one of the hundreds of locals who fled to Maiduguri, capital city of Borno state, said that the attack took place when Moslems were praying. "Very few of us got away with slight injuries as we made away. But we cannot account for our family members now. The mosques are littered with corpses and our houses have been burnt," Kyari, who spoke in the local Hausa news outlet, said. Kyari said that he knew only five out of the over 50 people who attended the Maghrib prayer at the mosque who survived and were now in Maiduguri.

The latest attacks took place at Malari village, just outside Maiduguri, and began with an kaboom from a teenage girl at the market that killed at least 10 people, said security guard Abba Shehu. Minutes later a woman in a taxi blew up at a military checkpoint and killed a soldier and two passengers. There are fears Boko Haram is using some of its thousands of captives as weapons.
[AnNahar] Suspected Boko Haram holy warriors killed 11 men overnight Friday in northeastern Nigeria, dragging them from their homes and shooting them for escaping forced conscription by their group, residents said. "Boko Haram fighters killed 11 people in our village (Miringa) this morning. The men had fled Gwargware village in (neighboring) Yobe state to seek refuge in our village after Boko Haram tried to force them to join their ranks," said resident Isa Mshelia. Baballe Mohammed, another resident, said the gunnies came to the village around 1.30am on Friday. They "picked 13 men from selected homes and took them to the Eid prayer ground outside the village where they opened fire on them," he said, adding two managed to escape. "The victims were well targeted because they were all residents of Gwargware village... who fled to Miringa some months ago to escape forced conscription by Boko Haram." | ||

| #2 I thought it was very Islamic to kill infidels. Obviously the holy month means you get extra points to kill fellow Moslems in the most gruesome way possible. Never understood why the accelerated their blood lust during Ramadan...I guess the fasting and the low blood sugar makes them especially irritable. |
