| BIFF guns down off-duty soldier in Maguindanao |

| [Inquirer] The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters killed an off-duty soldier in Maguindanao on Sunday. Capt. Jo-Anne Petinglay identified the victim as Corporal Saturnino Saragena. Saragena had gone to the market place unarmed and in civilian clothes when he was attacked by gunmen. This was the sixth attack on Philippine forces in the past month. With the increasing attacks in Maguindanao, Maj. Gen. Edmundo Pangilinan has directed field commanders to initiate preventive measures, like prohibiting soldiers from traveling alone. BIFF spokesman Abu Misri Mama was quick to admit his group was behind the attack, saying "government forces are our enemies." |
