[Bangkok Post] Two Thai soldiers were gunned down when their vehicle was ambushed and set ablaze by militants in Narathiwat province late Thursday morning.The incident occurred as a military pickup truck was passing in front of a mosque in Rueso district. A group of eight or nine militants, following in another truck, opened fire. The driver was hit and killed behind the wheel, bringing the truck to a halt on the roadside. Another soldier was injured and got out of the vehicle to flee. But he was shot again and killed.
The militants poured gasoline on the truck and on the bodies of the two slain soldiers and set them on fire, before leaving. They also deployed metal spikes on the road to impede pursuers.
