W. Bank drive-by shooting wounds one in suspected terror attack
2015-08-31
[Ynet] Driver flees scene; incident occurs only half a day after another car attack on a soldier, as West Bank attacks continue to mount.

An Israeli was shot on Sunday while driving from inside a passing vehicle bearing an Israeli license plate at Jit Junction in the West Bank. The driver suffered light wounds to his arm. The shooter or shooters expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council and a close friend and neighbor of the victim, Ronen Edri, spoke to him and said: "There needs to be a policy change, the state cannot keep restraining the IDF in protecting its citizens, and that is the current reality here. In the past there was a checkpoint in the exact location of today's attack, but the checkpoint was removed in an effort to 'not hinder the day-to-day life of the Arabs.' If the checkpoint was there today the attack would have been avoided."

Shortly after midnight the night before, IDF troops shot up a Paleostinian vehicle that allegedly tried to run over soldiers at Ari Junction south of Hebron. One soldier was lightly maimed in the foot. He was treated at the scene. The car was damaged by the troops' firing, but managed to drive away.

This summer has seen an escalation of violence in the West Bank, with an increase in the number of violent attacks -- particularly against security forces. Early August saw a vehicular attack on IDF troops in the Binyamin area.

Three soldiers were maimed in an August 6 incident on Route 60 near the town of Sinjil when they were stuck by a car with an Israeli license plate. Two were critically maimed and one was lightly maimed. The vehicle flipped over and the road was closed by security forces. The driver was shot by troops.
