Bomb-making materials found at abandoned Abu Sayyaf lair
2015-09-10
[InterAksyon] Philippine security forces pursuing Abu Sayyaf militants have discovered a house used as temporary shelter by the insurgent group in the hinterlands of Sulu.

Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado said troops uncovered the site Wednesday morning in Barangay Latih, Patikul. He said soldiers were scouring the area when they uncovered a "freshly abandoned" temporary harbor site "of the fleeing ASG members."

Arrojado said soldiers have recovered medical supplies used by the injured Abu Sayyaf militants in a recent clash with government forces. He said the troops also recovered bomb-making components, mobile phones, a radio transceiver, police and military uniforms, hammock, laminated sacks and a box of dried fish.

Earlier, Arrojado said that 15 Abu Sayyaf militants were reported to have been injured in heavy fighting in Mount Awak on August 28. He said among the injured were Abu Sayyaf sub-leaders Roger Samlahun and Hatib Hajan Sawalaan.

During the fighting, the troops pounded Abu Sayyaf positions with mortar shells that forced them to flee in different directions.
