Mecca crane collapse: Saudi king says findings will be made public |
2015-09-13 |
[BBC] Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... 's King Salman ...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians.... says the results of an an investigation into why a crane collapsed in the Moslem holy city of Mecca, killing at least 107 people, will be made public. They're not gonna discover that God wants them to be Lutherans, even after he smashed the Grand Mosque in Mecca on 9-11. Want to bet? The crane crashed into the Grand Mosque as it was full of worshippers, almost two weeks before the Hajj pilgrimage. Officials say strong winds and heavy rains caused the crane to fall. Correspondents say there had previously been concerns about safety on Saudi construction sites. King Salman visited the site late on Saturday, and then met survivors of the accident in hospital. "We will investigate all the reasons [of the collapse] and afterwards declare the results to the citizens," the official Saudi news agency quoted him as saying. The victims were said to include worshippers from Iran, ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... , Afghanistan, Egypt and Pakistain. |

#12 Massive crane thingies can no more be brought down by wind than a modern skyscraper be brought down by jet fuel. There fore all signs point to Kenya as builder. |

#7 I've looked at the photos. Lots of cranes at the site. Were they working that day despite the weather? Were none of them shut down on account of the weather forecast? |

#3 They said the wind was swinging the load which was swinging the crane. |

#2 True. Yet you at least STOW any load on that arm when not operating, or in a storm. Securing it obviously cannot be done on such a holy site built upon the sand. |

#1 many construction companies take cranes out of operation when surface wind speeds get to 25 mph because the wind speed at 20', 40', 60' etc. gets worse if the crane is lifting something and a 50 mph wind gust hits it, the operator could easily lose control having said that, the thunderstorm that hit Mecca on 9-11-2015 was much stronger than the norm and the operator was perhaps unprepared for something like that |
