[Inquirer] A suspected New People's Army militant was killed in a clash with Philippine troops in Davao Oriental on Tuesday afternoon.Captain Alberto Caber said troops were on patrol in Barangay Calapagan when they were fired upon by communist insurgents. A 45-minute gun battle broke out, resulting in the militant's death. He said soldiers recovered weapons along with an unexploded improvised explosive device from the battle site.
The battle had nothing to do with the search and rescue operations that officials have launched in connection with Monday's kidnapping incident on the Island Garden City of Samal.
