| Hamid Akram starts work as new governor of Kabul |

| [Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) said Saturday that the newly-appointed governor of Kabul ...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the Worldand didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either.... province started work, replacing the former governor Abdul Jabbar Taqwa and acting governor Mahboobullah Mohibi. A statement by IDLG said Eng. Akram's appointment was approved by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani ...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. .. Ghulam Jilani Popal, the director of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), said changes and replacements in the government are key support effective governance. He urged the Kabul residents to cooperate with Eng. Akram in maintaining security and fighting corruption considering the importance and geographical location of Kabul province. The newly-appointed governor Eng. Akram promised to use all efforts to utilize the present capacities and opportunities for development and better governance in line with the IDLG policies. Possessing higher education and experience in governance, Eng. Akram has previously served as head of protocol at the Presidential Palace. In the meantime, head of the provincial chief for Kabul, Abdul Rahman Hashemi, urged Eng. Akram to put all efforts to create an appropriate environment for all sectors in this province. |
