Four-day ban on pillion-riding in seven cities

and six other cities of the province from Muharram 7 to 10 in line with security arrangements for the first month of the Islamic calendar, said an official.

He said the provincial home department on the advice of the police authorities banned pillion-riding, which would be effective from 12 midnight on Wednesday for four days ---- Oct 21 to 24. Apart from Karachi, the ban would be in place in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Khairpur, Sukkur and Shikarpur, he added.

"The home department has under Section 144 CrPC imposed a complete ban on pillion-riding of cycle of violences from Oct 21 to 24 in seven cities of the province," he said while citing the home department notification. "The ban shall not be applicable to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcing agencies and security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services."

the Sindh government announced holidays on Oct 23 and Oct 24. An official said a notification in this regard had been issued which called for closure on Friday and Saturday of all public and private institutions except those related to essential services.
