5 die in airstrikes near Raqqa
2015-11-27
ARA News

ALEPPO – At least five children have been killed in an airstrike believed to be conducted by the international coalition’s forces on a school in the northeastern Syrian city of Raqqa, the major stronghold of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS), activists reported on Thursday.

Speaking to ARA News in Raqqa, civil rights activist Anas Raqqawi reported that “nine civilians were killed, including five children, and 13 others were hardly injured in an airstrike on the Hetin primary school” in the ISIS de facto capital Raqqa.

Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS), a monitoring group documenting ISIS violations in Raqqa, released images showing large pieces of metal shrapnel from rockets.

“The area surrounding Hetin school was used by ISIS as a public square for punishments where the ISIS-linked Sharia Court punishes opponents,” Raqqawi said.

On Thursday, the group chopped off a man’s hand after being accused of robbery. On the same day, a woman was stoned to death in front of Hetin School for committing the “sin of adultery”, according to a statement by the Sharia Court.

#6  I'd use the short-range attack Pickups for this mission. Ta hell with the expense sez I! You every seen a fully decked out F-150 dropped from 35,000 fetes with an indicated initial airspeed of 330 knots? You haven't? Why, back in the day, according to my cousin Steven, it was a common sight in the 'nam, course, but it was a long time ago, things were different then, pickups were made with American steel, you didn't mind the rattles because you knew your Union brothers had excellent, high paying low skilled jobs. One yours for the asking if you got home safely. The C-130(FO) was used for the dangerous mission, mostly to close the shipping channel on Haiaphong Harbour. Low and slow the C-130 would come in out of the dawn, lower the rear gate and roll out the F-150s, usually they were strippers with 3 on the tree, but on occasion a "Cleaveland" was dropped on a HVT (like 5 water buffalo). There are roumors that something called a "Ranchero" was used in the nascent SEAD mission. I dunno, it was a long time ago, things were different then.

#4  According to Al Ahram:

The school, like others in Raqqa, has been taken over by ISIS.

In other words, it was being used to train up Lion Cubs in the skills of jihad, not the gentler arts of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

#2  An 'Arc Light' is what is called for. Their tunnels and bunkers would be like tissue paper.
Sadly, it won't happen with this administration.
