Abadi: Iraq Has Sufficient Forces to Fight ISIL
2015-12-01
[ALMANAR.LB] Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said Monday that Iraq has sufficient forces to fight the ISIL group, after American senators called for more US troops to be deployed to the country.

"The Iraqi government welcomes an increase in support in weapons and training and (air) support from international partners in our war against ISIL," Abadi said in a statement.

But "we confirm that Iraq has enough men and resolve to defeat ISIL and other similar criminal groups," he said.

Abadi's remarks came a day after American senators John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
and Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO...
advocated an increase in US forces in Iraq to around 10,000 from the current cap of 3,550.

"The prime minister... said he wanted more American presence here," McCain, the chair of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, told journalists in Baghdad.

And Graham, a member of the same committee, said: "I talked with the prime minister -- would you like more American help? The answer was yes."

He added: "If you went up to 10,000, you're not gonna get any pushback from the Iraqis."

"I mean the difference between 3,500 and 10,000 is meaningless politically inside the country."

#4  For the elderly amongst us, I used to play play Avalon Hills war game,France: 1940, if played in a realistic rules way the French didn't have a chance and the British are very lucky to get away. The units morale was too brittle, the leadership lacking (with the notable exception of DeGaulles armour end brigade) to stand for more than a day or two. The French player can win by points, holding out a little in each scenario, but not in a real way. I would love to see that game brought into the computer along with panzer-bush, but keeping die-rolls and deep rule sets, just using the computer for the maps and bookkeeping.

#3  France had sufficient (actually superior) forces to fight Nazi Germany. What was lacking was will. See W. Shirer's "The Collapse of the Third RTepublic" for an arguably definitive account.

#1  10,00 US Troops each to Syria + Iraq, as backed up or supported by a 100,000-man, mainly Sunni Arab Coalition force.

Read, NO 150,000 RUSSIAN TROOPS IN SYRIA-IRAQ = THE MIDDLE EAST.
