Syed Farook is religious, sez Dad
2015-12-03
One of the suspects in Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif. has been identified as Syed Farook, according to reports. Farook was linked to the horrific slaughter that took place at the Inland Regional Center, according to NBC News.

After police announced that two suspects — a male and a female — were dead following a car chase and shoot out with police, a search began at a nearby Redlands apartment linked to the suspects.

A man who identified himself as Farook’s father told the Daily News his son worked as a health technician inspecting restaurants and hotels.

“I haven’t heard anything. He worked in a county office,” Farook's dad told The News. “He’s married and has a kid. We’re estranged because my wife got the divorce, and they are together. She doesn’t want to see me.”

Farook said he hasn’t seen his son in some time.

“He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.”

#38  Watching CNN (ugh) in the Munich area, it appears that (reluctantly) they are coming around (glacial speed) to the idea of terrorism.
The garage full of boom material kind of blows holes in Champ's gun control narrative, huh? (no pun intended).

#37  Domestic version of Benghazi. Several agencies need room to sanitize their involvement.

#36  When the FBI says [paraphrasing] "Farook was in contact with known potential terrorist persons of interest, but those persons of interest cases had been closed"......my bullshi* meter begins to vibrate.

#35  Maybe Champ is getting a little concerned that he might have a credibility problem.

#34  I just find it interesting that:

There was essentially a US domestic news blackout for almost a day. Yes, there was and continues to be misinformation, as per any event like this. But the volume of 'news' was at an uncharacteristically subdued level and practically non-existent in the San Bernardino area.

SBPD and the Sherriff's Department were able to locate (per a "tip") the residence and the vehicle very quickly

The FBI's LA office was on scene within a very short period of time

CAIR had both located the brother-in-law and held a news conference at their offices, and issued a condemnation, three or so hours after the attack

The DOJ is involved - at the USAG level - in a little over 24 hours

#33  No doubt Loretta is working the angles to blame it on the Tea Party and Conservatives.

If only we gave him a job! (oops... he had one...)

#32  I certainly hope we don't soon discover that Farook was part of an 'FBI sting' operation gone terribly bad.

I believe I read somewhere he was targeting someone specifically, a betrayer possibly? With all the ammo, IED materials, and explosive discovered, appears he had much greater plans in store than a suicidal employment shoot'em up.

#31  Appears the Champ's 'workplace violence' theory is kaput.

Now Loretta proves her worth.

#30  Oh, and it seems that U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch has taken charge of the San Bernardino investigation. So we now have "top people" working on it...

Interesting indeed. Appears the Champ's 'workplace violence' theory is kaput. Any Saudi royal family connections? Inquiring minds, etc, etc.

#29  I was under the impression he married her over there and the brought her back here.

Reports are that he did marry her in Saudi Arabia. Probably gamed the system by saying she was his fiancé and married her again in the US, since a Saudi marriage might have raised flags.

Oh, and it seems that U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch has taken charge of the San Bernardino investigation. So we now have "top people" working on it...

#27  Motive is important, and if the motive is a belief system, then yes it is different than a crazy kid with mommy issues.

Take that guy down in Oklahoma a little ways back. Did he 'go postal' and start cutting former employers' heads off, or did he plan a dire revenge.

It makes a difference as to what charges they can press against the one captured. I have been told some insurance policies have terrorism clauses, would make a difference there as well. Makes a difference to the victims' families as well for coping or closure.

Like Deacon said, that is too many people and too much stuff to think this happened because somebody took his Swingline stapler.

#26  Is Visa Express back again? Were some wheels greased?

"In July 2014 [Farooq] returned from overseas with Malik, who was on a Pakistani passport. They later married, and she was here on a K-1 visa for fiancés."

#25  They just can't bring themselves to admit their narrative is bogus.

Because, if you take away the narrative, what's left?
Posted by: g(r)omgoru   2015-12-03 15:23

#24  CNN doing its usual weasling. FBI reports he was in touch with international terror groups. CNN says,"but workplace dissatisfaction" may have also contributed". They just can't bring themselves to admit their narrative is bogus.
Posted by: Deacon Blues   2015-12-03 15:00

#23  Another question. If they were married only earlier this year - how did she get her spousal visa approval so soon? Usually it takes several months (especially when ICE is busy processing Obama's illegal-alien children.).

Is Visa Express back again? Were some wheels greased?

#22  Ref #10 and the timeline. The following from Breitbart:

Regarding that couple, there are now questions about the timing of their marriage. Their child–whom they left with relatives–was reportedly born in May, but they were only married earlier this year, reportedly. That raises questions about a premarital liaison–or perhaps about a sham marriage arranged for other reasons, perhaps for a pretext for Malik to be in the country. Still unclear.

ANYTHING is offensive to liberals and muslims.

#19  "The shooters were NOT on the 'no fly list.' Prohibiting no fliers from buying weapons really would have stopped them from arming themselves"

Plus it would have been the thin end of the wedge, eroding our Second Amendment rights. I might not agree with his religion or action yesterday, but he has every right to arm himself - its what the founding fathers wanted and Barack Hussein Obama aint taking that away.

#18  Seems he's integrated well. Has dispute at work, goes home, gets gun, blows workmates away.

Religion doesn't seem any more relevant than it was at Columbine, Sandy Hook or a post office near you.

#17  A GoPro is an expensive piece of kit. Good thing the perp had a gov't job.

Not really. Sure, the top of the line is expensive, but I just picked up Hero3+ Silver for $199. So, well within a California civil servants budget. And used ones are available for even less.

#14  Besoeker, according to The Guardian's new liveblog on the story today (Dr. Steve linked to their liveblog yesterday in his other post), they married two years ago. Wife is Pakistani, brother apparently served in our armed forces,

#13  He was very religious....He’s Muslim.”

And that kind of sums up the problem doesn't it?
Posted by: AlanC   2015-12-03 08:56

#12  Timeline appears a bit off.

The shooters were NOT on the 'no fly list.' Prohibiting no fliers from buying weapons really would have stopped them from arming themselves (thanks for another idiotic suggestion, Dems).

He traveled to Saudi "earlier this year" and came back married to Malik, whom he had met online? They have a six month old?

Let's see - any child six months old must have been born around May 2015. But he traveled when? Earlier THIS year? Conceived around Sept 2014 via the internet?

She must have entered the US in the late stages of pregnancy wearing full Islamic garb so the baby bump wasn't visible.

#11  The two dead killers are Mr. Farooq and the wife

Aha! This proves heterosexual marriage leads to violence!
Posted by: g(r)omgoru   2015-12-03 08:28

#10  Nota bene: the article has been updated since it was posted last night. Summary at the moment: The two dead killers are Mr. Farooq and the wife he brought back from a visit to Saudi Arabia. His baby girl was left with his mother when they went on their rampage. Two fo the guns were bought legally. The third person is apparently still being investigated.

#8  Speaking of not taking long:

The brother-in-law of Farook told of his “shock” and how he had “no idea” how such a tragedy could have happened. Farhan Khan [speaking from an office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, in Anaheim] told the media at a press conference that he wanted to convey his and his family’s sadness and condolences to the victims. He said he spoke to Farook just a week ago.

The Los Angeles branch of Cair (Council on American–Islamic Relations) has also condemned the attack.

#7   Killers were wearing GoPro cameras during massacre!

The name of the female suspect in San Bernardino shooting is – Tashfeen Malik.

Several jihadists in Europe have worn cameras during their bloody attacks in the past year.

#6  So why did he go to a Christmas party in the first place? Was he invited so he wouldn't be offended for being left out? Or was it a holiday party with no religious overtones - this is California, after all. I believe Santa was in the building, handing out presents. Is Santa Claus an offensive religious icon?

Just another example of too many guns and workplace violence. Right!

#5  Expect the Obama regime to launch withering PR attacks on the 2nd Amendment in an attempt to dilute Islamic involvement.

Inescapable irony - Farook's job was to protect the public sector from sickness and disease in 'Sanctuary City' San Bernardino.

#4  What the hell are family members doing in front of cameras so soon? Have they been interviewed by law enforcement yet? WTF is going on with this frikkin CAIR BS?
Posted by: Rex Mundi   2015-12-03 01:11

#3  yes of course, the weapons and body armor were just normal possessions of health technicians; his recent interest in religion could not possibly have anything to do with this.nothing to see here.
move along.

#2  I'll speculate he was a jihadist fanticist, and a particular event pushed him to get real about it at this time and place.

They were prepared, but it doesn't seem planned. Shooting 20 people then going home seems a strange thing to do.
