FBI raids home of Farook pal and gun buyer, who recently ck'd into nut house.
2015-12-06
[AP] SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) -- The latest on the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California (all times local):

The FBI has not said what it was looking for in a raid early Saturday at the home next door to where San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook's family used to live in Riverside, California.

Neighbors say authorities with guns drawn broke windows and used a cutting torch to get into the garage. A neighbor says an old friend of Farook's is the person that lives in the house.

A law enforcement official says that more than three years ago, that person bought two assault rifles later used in the shooting, but authorities haven't been able to talk to him because he checked himself into a mental hospital after the attack.
Since when does that stop law enforcement?
The official was not allowed to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The FBI has said the man is not a suspect in shootings, though they want to question him.

#10  Should be tried as an accomplice to let other straw purchasers know how serious this shit is.

#9  Friends and family are at the "we disavow any knowledge of his actions" phase of the operation.

Still this bit was from 3 years ago, and before Farook & wife met. I wonder if loony-bin guy, having done a longtime friend a solid back in the day, is now shocked and suicidal at the eventual result. Who knows? Who cares?

The FBI will absolutely prosecute the gun as a straw purchase.

#8  My understanding is the FBI found a butt load of ammo and a "stockpile" of weapons in the house in Redlands.

I bet there are more people out there like this guy, buying a weapon as a favor for a friend.

I guess this is how ole Farook stayed dark on the law enforcement radar.

Whatever it was, they won't find it.

Beginning the "incompetent to stand trial" defense.
