Local security officials in northern Baghlan province said Tuesday that over 100 Taliban fighters have been arrested by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) over the past two months after security check posts were established on the Kabul-Kunduz Highway. "More than 100 Taliban fighters including their shadow governor for Kunduz have been arrested by security force members at check posts along the highway over the past two months," said Abdul Satar Barez, the governor of Baghlan. "We assure the people that the sons of this soil are struggling day and night to ensure a safe environment for the people," he added. Meanwhile, Khan Pacha Shirzad a commander for Baghlan's Special Forces unit said: "Our soldiers are ready day and night to serve the people and we assure the nation that we will put our hearts and souls into defending the country. This is our duty." Recently reports emerged that militants are traveling along highways; however, local officials in Baghlan assured they will not let this happen anymore in their province. |
