| ISIS tries to impede Peshmerga progress towards Mosul |

The festivities, which centered in the Bartalah sub-district east of Mosul, came subsequent to an attack by ISIS faceless myrmidons on Peshmerga positions in the area. Kurdish army of the Peshmerga has recently made progress in the eastern and northern countryside of Mosul , in a bid to retake the city from ISIS jihadists in cooperation with the Iraqi army and supported by the U.S.-led coalition. Speaking to ARA News, a front man for the Peshmerga said that the Kurdish forces pushed ISIS back after heavy festivities on Tuesday evening. "After more than four hours of festivities, Daesh [Islamic State] Lions of Islam were forced to retreat towards Mosul city," the source said, using another acronym for ISIS. "Daesh [Islamic State] Lions of Islam also targeted our (Peshmerga) headquarters in the Safiyah village in Hamdaniya sub-district north of Mosul, but we were able to repel the attack with support of the coalition's warplanes," he said. ISIS has reportedly used boom-mobiles and mortar shells in its attacks on the Peshmerga positions east and north of Mosul on Tuesday. This comes as the radical group tries to fortify its headquarters in the city of Mosul amid preparations by the Kurdish Peshmerga army and Iraqi government forces to launch a large operation aimed at regaining Mosul from ISIS. |
