Kabul Attack Left 2 Dead, 36 Wounded
2016-01-06
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Tuesday said that Monday night's explosion in Kabul left two dead and 36 wounded; however, eye witnesses say they saw at least six bodies, two of which were local shopkeepers.

MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said they have started investigations into the incident.

"The explosion occurred between two foreign camps. Police arrived in the area after a short time and helped take the wounded to hospital and helped those who were affected by the incident," he said.

It is said that the attack has some similarities with the Shah Shaheed truck bombing incident in September last year. This explosion killed 14 people and wounded more than 400 others.

On Tuesday, police kept the Hawa Shinasi area east of Hamid Karzai International Airport cordoned off to the public – allowing no one access to the blast site.

Meanwhile, eye witnesses and residents said they saw the bodies of at least six people including an Afghan security guard and two shopkeepers.

"The blast was very heavy. An interpreter for foreigners said that [many] tons of explosives were used in the attack," said Tamim, the owner of a restaurant in the area.

"Five to six bodies were there that could not be recognized. I took them to the car – myself," said an eye witness.

Residents also said their houses had been damaged by the explosion.

"Lots of damage has been inflicted to the [foreign] camps and to civilian houses as well," said Shafiullah, owner of a car park in the area.

"After the blast I left my house. My mother and sister were wounded by [flying] glass," said Roeena, a resident of Hawa Shinasi area.
