CBS' Nancy Drew Will Be Diverse |
2016-01-13 |
[HOLLYWOODREPORTER] Crash. Burn. Scorch mark on the road to hell. She can't be a curious and active 17-year-old girl. Instead she's gotta be all growed up and a detective on the NYPD, not on the River Heights police force, nor an attorney (practicing or otherwise) like her father was. They have taken a fine stew of adventure, pluck, and character, and made it porridge. |

#11 And I had the hots for Nancy, that blonde haired older woman, as a 10 year old. |

#10 [sarc] Leave her alone! She's just a sweet TS "girl" of mixed non-Caucasian parentage trying make a living in a world of white privilege! [/sarc] My work is done. |

#9 Will she twerk when she solves a case? |

#8 Is the world crying out for a new version of Nancy Drew right now? All I can think of is they probably had an ethnic girl detective show and changed the main characters name to get a few headlines and hope to get a leg up on ratings. |

#7 They could just have easily written an entirely original series for such a character. But then, that's not the point of this exercise. |

#6 Left: It's not cultural appropriation when we do it! |

#5 Along time ago I read a short story by a Russian author called "Thee Making of the Soviet Robinson" . The plot invovled an author trying to write a version of Robinson Crusoe for a children's magazine. The editors keep asking for more characters since he will need to be told what he must do. Life imitates art. |

#4 are we being prepped for internationalism? no borders, free movement of people and the invasion of the third world? |

#3 So they are looking for 'full African American or Latino' casts... And that isn't racist at all... |

#2 Why do they have to reinvent characters that were already taken? Doesn't anyone have enough imagination to cook up something new anymore? |

#1 I'm going to enjoy not watching it. |
