| Aquino sees no ‘credible’ terror threat to the Philippines |

| [Gulf Today] Philippine president Benigno Aquino on Friday said he hasn't received any "credible" threat from terror groups following an attack in Jakarta, Indonesia, killing at least seven and injuring 24 others that Daesh claimed responsibility for. Aquino assured the government would not let down its guard as he ordered security agencies to closely monitor the activities of groups that pose a threat. He said, "I have ordered intelligence agencies to do the monitoring specifically in the communities to determine the existence of such threats." In a related development, the Philippine military and police declared a "heightened alert" nationwide as they asked the public to be vigilant and help the country address such threats. Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Mayoralgo dela Cruz reported that soldiers had disrupted training being conducted by the Abu Sayyaf to show support for the Daesh last December on the island province of Basilan. He disclosed the troops killed the fugitive Malaysian bomber Mohammad Najib Hussein, alias Abu Anas. and also captured an Abu Sayyaf camp in Al Barka, Basilan. According to Mayoralgo, the military offensive disrupted Abu Sayyaf propaganda showing the training of alleged Daesh supporters. |
