| Taliban commander among 4 killed in failed attack on Kandahar security post |

| At least four Taliban militants including the group’s regional commander was killed in a failed attack on a security post in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan. The militants were killed earlier today in Arghistan district after launching an attack on the security post in Sarchi area. The provincial government media office said the Afghan security forces repelled the attack which was launched around 10:00 am this morning. The Taliban commander killed in the attack has been identified as Mullah Izat who was in charge of the Taliban militants in Arghistan. The Afghan security forces also seized numerous weapons and explosives belonging to the Taliban militants, the provincial government media office added. The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far. Kandahar is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating and often carry out insurgency activities. This comes as at least four Afghan policemen were martyred in a suspected insider attack in Khakriz district earlier. |
