| ISIS executes 4 in Mosul |

| ERBIL – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed on Sunday four Kurdish people in Iraq’s northwestern city of Mosul on charges of spying for the Peshmerga. The victims, who belonged to the Kurdish Shabak clan, were reportedly arrested earlier in January in eastern Mosul. “After 20 days of detention in the ISIS-held central prison of Mosul, the group decided to execute the four Kurdish young men on charges of spying for the Peshmerga army,” Raafat Zarari, spokesman of Nineveh media center, told ARA News on Sunday. The victims were accused of leaking security information about ISIS movements to the Iraqi Kurdistan’s Peshmerga army. “The four young men were executed by firing squad in the Bakkir district in eastern Mosul,” the source said. The radical group has earlier executed hundreds of Kurdish civilians in northern Iraq on similar charges. Backed by the U.S.-led coalition, the Kurdish Peshmerga troops have recently advanced against ISIS militant fighters in the vicinity of Mosul, amid preparations to storm the city –which is deemed the main bastion for ISIS in Iraq. |
