The missile unit in the Yemeni army fired two ballistic missiles on Saudi base in Asir.

The sources confirmed that the missiles caused casualties.

Meanwhile, other sources said that several mercenaries hired by the US security firm, Balackwater, were killed during fierce clashes with the Yemeni army and the popular committees in Thubab district of Taiz governorate.

could be

it may be that the weapon doesn't quite fit the Hezb ideal

- its very heavy (2 tons or so)

- probably requires some launch infrastructure and some on site personnel with weapons specific knowledge

- while in the air the missile is itself a relatively big target (compared to the smaller rockets that Hezb has in abundance)

#3  other sources say

-the Qaher-1 is an updated version of the Soviet Era missile

- the updated version, which is surface to surface can carry about 400 pounds of explosives and travel 200 miles or so

- a simulation of the Qaher has been used in tests to see if anti-missile defenses can knock it out and some of those tests have produced defensive successes

#2  These are Vietnam era SA-2 air defense missiles being used against ground targets. They were probably sold before the fall of the Soviet Union. The sooner they shoot them all out into the desert, the easier the Saudi Air Force can blow up their operators.

#1  If the Russians are selling SRBMs to Iran to use in Yemen against Saudi airbases, turn about in Syria is only fair play.
