| Al-Qaeda seize southern Yemen town |

| [ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Al-Qaeda Death Eaters took control of the southern coastal town of Ahwar inYemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... on Saturday, the Arabic website of Al Arabiya News Channel reported. According to local residents in Ahwar, al-Qaeda Death Eaters were deployed at the eastern entrances to the city and mounted the roofs tops of government buildings, where they fought with Popular Resistance Units loyal to President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi. "At dawn this morning the al-Qaeda gunnies clashed with the Popular Resistance forces, killing three of them. They attacked the sheikh in charge of the area and after he escaped set up street checkpoints and planted their black flag on government buildings," one resident said. The coastal city and surrounding district, in Abyan ...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirateafter seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues... province, is home to over 30,000 people and is an important geographic link between the major port city of Mukalla to the east and the smaller town of Zinjibar, both of which Al Qaeda seized months ago. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula ...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000... (AQAP) has recently been making advances in Yemen as the Saudi-led coalition forces, which backs the internationally recognized government, fight Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews... militias. The government, based in Yemen's second largest city of Aden in the southwest, has also been fighting the advance of the murderous Moslems, even in areas close to the presidential palace. Residents in Aden's Mansoura neighborhood said heavy kabooms reverberated on Friday night as gunnies launched shoulder-fired rockets in a failed attempt Curses! Foiled again! to take over a container port. But AQAP has also suffered setbacks, losing its leader and several brass hats to U.S. drone strikes. |
