US warns citizens to evacuate Iraq if Mosul dam bursts
2016-03-01
Nothing new or specific. Just the ridiculousness of advising people to get out after the dam breaks. When a few million Iraqis will be hightailing it out of Baghdad and everywhere else along the river. Personally, I'd head to the nearest new concrete structure more than a storey tall.

I hope there are some high def cameras trained on the dam if it does break.

Personally I prefer to run like hell before the dam breaks, but that's just me...

#8  We wanna keep that dam intact then, at all costs, because if those people have to evacuate they'll be pitching tents on my front lawn.

#6  A little history of the dam here.

German-Italian Firm. Sounds like the folks constructing it didn't follow engineering recommendations with regards to the dam's foundation.

Also sounds like Chicago/Detroit/New Orleans-style construction techniques.

#5  Plans to bring the surviving wet refugees to the US are in contingency discussions.

#4  Built on a foundation of gypsum (soluble in water) during the early Saddam Hussain era.

Grout is pumped into the dam almost every day. It still leaks.

I've got a floaty here somewhere.

#1  Well since the battle for Mosul has supposedly started, if one of the players gets a bit frisky, lots of contingencies need to be considered.
