Baidoa op leads to arrests as landmine attack reported

BAIDOA, Somalia-Southwest State security forces have captured 10 people on suspicion of being deadly suicide bombing masterminds, Garowe Online reports.

Security officials in Bay regional capital of Baidoa, said, apprehended Al Shabaab members tipped off police with the whereabouts of arrested suspects. Among the captured is a garage owner whom authorities blamed for facilitating terror plots.

On Feb. 29, twin suicide attacks left 30 people killed and 60 others wounded, with high intensity explosions shredding the roofs of restaurants. The targeted crowd was watching a football match in restaurants frequented by politicians and Diaspora.

Landmine blast

Meanwhile in the outskirts of Baidoa, soldiers in technical suffered one loss and seven injuries after wadding into a minefield. The army soldiers were heading to Daynunay when the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) hit.

Southwest State administration has coordinated anti-militants onslaughts with Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
