province.

The faceless myrmidons had reportedly planned attacks on security posts in Deh Sarak and Pansar areas of Achin district but security forces foiled their plan.

A counter attack was launched on them leaving 24 killed and their weapons destroyed.

Local officials said three dead bodies were left behind by the holy warriors on the attack sites.

Nangarhar is the stronghold of Daesh [Islamic State] in the eastern part of the country, with its center of command in Achin district, where the group is trying to establish a base of operations in its rugged mountains.

Coalition officials estimate between 1,000 to 3,000 Islamic State fighters are stationed in eastern Afghanistan.
