| Somali refugees have ruined Kenya and must leave | |

Northeastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said Kenya has accommodated the more than 350,000 mostly Somali refugees in camps in Daadab for 25 years.
Saleh told a high powered delegation from the African Union security council and the UNHCR that the refugees are taking Kenyan hospitality for granted. “The refugee camps have become a breeding ground for al Shabaab terrorists cells, money laundering, drug and human trafficking,” he added. Saleh said the Westgate and the Garissa University College terror attacks were planned and executed from Daadab. “Over 80 per cent of Somalia territory is safe and we don’t see any reason why these camps cannot be moved to such areas,” he said. The head of the UNHCR delegation, Ahmed Baba, said the intergration of refugees into the community inside Somalia was being hampered by lack of basic infrastructure among them water, schools health and security. He said 99 per cent of the refugees are still vulnerable and “they cannot just be taken back and left alone”. “The repatriation should be carried out in a dignified manner. Voluntarily repatriation remains the best option,” Baba said. | |
