| ISIS troops capture 5 Syrian Army checkpoints in Hama |

| [ARA News] HOMS – Subsequent to fierce clashes, the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) captured five military checkpoints for the Syrian regime army in Hama province, military sources confirmed on Monday. Speaking to ARA News in Hama, rights activist Louay Baroudi reported that ISIS took over five checkpoints from the pro-regime forces near Mount Shaer in the Hwesis district–on the highway that leads to the Shaer oilfield. “Daesh seized control of those checkpoints after bombing positions of the regime’s army, killing over 20 Syrian troops on the checkpoints and destroying three tanks and two armored vehicles,” Baroudi said, using an acronym for ISIS. The hardline group seized a large deal of light and medium weapons, and two tanks (type T 55 and T 62), the source reported. “Today’s operations come as the group tries to ease the pressure on its militants in the city of Palmyra and its surroundings,” Baroudi told ARA News. “Also, ISIS launched several attacks on the pro-regime forces stationed in the Shaer oilfield, forcing them retreat to ad-Duwwa district.” |
