| 33 militants killed, 16 wounded in Afghan forces clearance operations |

| [Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 33 holy warriors were killed and 16 others were maimed during the clearance operations conducted jointly by the Afghan national security forces. The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the holy warriors were killed or maimed in the past 24 hours in various provinces of the country. A statement by MoD said at least 21 of the holy warriors were killed during the operations in Gilan and Andar districts of Ghazni and Bakwa district of Farah province. The statement further added that 10 holy warriors were also maimed during the same operations, while 9 holy warriors were killed and 3 others were maimed during a separate operation in Sangin district of Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... and Achin and Kot districts of Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country.. province. At least 3 holy warriors were killed and 3 others were detained during operations in Ghorian district of Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... and Gomal district of Paktika ...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo... province, MoD added. The anti-government armed holy warrior groups have not commented regarding the report so far. The Afghan national security forces have stepped up counter-terrorism operations amid deteriorating security situation across the country as the anti-government armed holy warrior groups have increased to their insurgency activities during the recent months. |
