HOMS – Syrian Islamist rebels called on people in the southern province of Daraa to leave the ranks of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS), accusing them of “postponing victory” against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad in Syria’s war. The Jaish al-Islam (army of Islam), an extended umbrella for several Syrian rebel groups, issued Wednesday a statement, obtained by ARA News, saying: “We call on all those who have joined the terror group (ISIS) in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, to leave it as soon as possible.”
“ISIS extremists combat opposition fighters, deforming the name of Islam as well as deceiving our young people through demonstrating adherence to religion,” the statement said, adding they are “the worst enemies of Islam”. “We are fully supporting the Court of Justice in Dar Horan, the only forum to bring justice and unity to people in Daraa,” leadership of the Islamist rebels stressed. Speaking to ARA News in Daraa, media activist Mohammed Hassan said the rebel group of the Yarmouk army has sent a message similar to that of the Army of Islam, calling on ISIS militants to desert its ranks in the Yarmouk district, south of Syria. | |
