#2 In addition to its many advantages for the insipid ruling class and wannabe aristocrats, global warming also provides a useful distraction from real problems. |

#1 I read an article in Discover about grey whales moving back to the Atlantic because of global climate change melting the Arctic ice caps. Supposedly, they were 'whaled out' by other human activities (hunting)in the 19th century. Later in the story, research showed the grey whales made two big migrations from Pacific to Atlantic in the Holocene and Pliocene (?) eras. Maybe they came through the Panama Canal, because there were no coal-burning humans around during those times - the Holocene era starts roughly 12,000 years ago - after the last ice age. So the author is willing to blame the current migration on the popular theory, so he can get published, but has no theories for the previous migrations across the Arctic. Also not mentioned in the story is the possibility that a few were not harpooned 150 years ago and managed to avoid human contact until the era of cell-phone cameras. But he couldn't work global warming into that theory. |
