[Iran Press TV] An Iranian military official says commandos from an Iranian army unit have been deployed to Syria on an advisory mission.

Brigadier General Ali Arasteh, the deputy for coordination in the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces, told Tasnim news agency on Monday that the Iranian commandos, from Brigade 65 of the Forces, had took on a mission of advising Syrian forces.

#3  Interesting. The 65th is regular Iranian Army, not IRGC. Apparently the IRGC is having issues with 'volunteers'.

#1  Iran has had some high level officers killed on or near the front lines the past few months. Probably, the high command back in tehran got a lot of info on the deficiencies of the Syrian, Hezbollah, shia militia team.

so maybe the decision was to that the Syrians need more commando leadership

this is a bit similar to situations the US faced in Afghanistan and Iraq -- however, as the US has found out, not only is it hard to train the locals but also this training can come undone fairly swiftly if it is undercut by corrupt leadership
