45 kilos of ammo found in Dutch flat linked to French attack plot
2016-04-05
[AlAhram] Around 45 kilograms (99 pounds) of ammunition were found in an apartment in the Dutch city of Rotterdam that has been linked to a foiled terror attack on La Belle France, prosecutors said Monday.
That's meant to sound a dreadful amount. Is it?

at the flat in the southern port city on March 27 at La Belle France's request. He is suspected of planning an attack in La Belle France for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group along with Reda Kriket, another suspect arrested near Gay Paree a few days before him.

"We have found around 45 kilos of ammunition, including two types of bullets which can both be used with Kalashnikovs," Wim de Bruin, a front man for the national prosecutor's office said.

He said no explosives or any arms had been found.
No doubt they're buried in the nearby woods, well greased and wrapped in oil cloth -- just like the Resistance did in the old days.
Bahri has been fighting extradition and is in jug until Dutch authorities take a decision on whether to send him to La Belle France.

#2  My friends and I blow through around 500 rounds each when we go to the range.

So 2000 rounds with 4 people isn't that much. Well, maybe in Europe where having one round is enough to send people into a fit.

#1  TW, last time I bought 7.62 ammo, I bought a crate. The UPS guy made it out to be pretty heavy. The wooden crate, metal "spam can" insert, and accompanying 1240(?) rounds of ammo was about 60 lbs. My ciphering (remember to carry the two) puts 45 kilos at somewhere betwixt 2000-3000 rounds max. While here in the U.S., the media would portray this as truly only an amount of ammo of apocalyptic scale, other firearm enthusiasts might say "meh, a typical weekend at the range with friends". Hope this helps. Oh yeah, the crate in question I had delivered was about 30" x 18" x 8" so not really all that big.
