| No other casualties in Kandahar bomb attack |

| A relatively heavy explosion rocked Kandahar city earlier today with the preliminary reports suggesting only the suicide bomber was killed in the incident. The bomber detonated his explosives before reaching to his potential target which remains unascertained, leaving only himself dead. The Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) confirmed that a suicide bomber was shot dead by the Afghan intelligence operatives in the 5th police district of Kandahar city. Kandahar is the birthplace of the Taliban insurgents however the Afghan security forces have managed to maintain security and stability in this province during the past several months. The anti-government armed militants have been trying to expand their insurgency activities in this province lately amid deteriorating security situation in the south. At least 19 militants operating in 4 groups were arrested by the Afghan intelligence operatives lately as they were planning to carry out terrorist attacks in this province. |
