| AMISOM soldiers targeted in grenade bomb in Marka |

| Suspected Al shabaab members have on Sunday attacked African Union soldiers with hand grenade bomb in Marka town, where Somali Government is struggling to contain a violent insurgency. An eyewitness, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Radio Shabelle that assailants have hurled a grenade on AMISOM soldiers on security patrol and escaped from the scene. “The blast was huge and could be heard across the city, but I can’t verify the exact casualty figures on the AU soldiers,” said the witness. In the aftermath of the bomb attack, AU troops have cordoned off the scene of the attack and arrested several people on suspicion of the culprits. Marka, which is the regional capital of Lower Shabelle has seen a little peace since Somali National Army (SNA), backed by African Union forces drove out Al shabaab from the port city in 2012. |
