| Killer of ex-MPA killed in encounter |

| GUJRANWALA: The main accused involved in the murder of former PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad Khan was killed in an encounter with police here on Saturday. City Police Officer Muhammad Waqas Nazir said that the former MPA along with his son and a friend had been murdered a few months back. A special police team had been formed to arrest main suspect Tariq Patwari. On Saturday, police on a tip-off raided a house near Nafah Tower, but the accused opened fire. The police returned the fire, killing Patwari on the spot. TWO GET LIFE-TERM: FIA’s special court judge Malik Nasrullah Awan awarded life-term imprisonment to two accused involved in a fake account case here on Saturday. FIA deputy director Khalid Anees said that Kanwal Jeet Kaur had submitted an application against National Saving Center manager Mazhar Farooq, Zahid Iqbal, Muhammad Saleem and Azeem. He said the FIA team investigated the matter and found all the four accused guilty of charges. He said accused Mazhar Farooq was awarded 14-year jail-term with a fine of Rs50,000 and Zahid Iqbal 16-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 while accused Saleem and Azeem were awarded two-year each jail-term.
