| 45 militants killed, 80 wounded in failed Taliban attack in Kunar |

| At least 45 militants were killed and around 80 others were wounded in a failed Taliban coordinated attack in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan. The Afghan National Army (ANA) 201st Silab Corps said the militants were killed during the gun battle with the Afghan forces in Ghaziabad district. A statement by 201st Silab Corps said the coordinated attack by Taliban on several security posts in Ghaziabad was successfully repulsed by the Afghan forces. Earlier, the local officials said at least 28 Taliban militants were killed and 30 others were wounded during the clash. The officials further added that a member of the Afghan National Army lost his life and three others were wounded in the attack. The Taliban group spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid earlier claimed that two Taliban militants were killed and five others were wounded during the gun battle with the Afghan forces. Mujahid also claimed that eleven soldiers of the Afghan National Army were killed and several others were wounded during the clash. Kunar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in its various districts. The province is also home of various foreign insurgents as they are routinely crossing the Durand Line from the tribal regions of Pakistan to stage attacks. |
